I am sitting in a room with Jules Antoine Lissajous. It’s 1855 in his Paris workshop and he is showing me his “beautiful machine.” ... I am sitting in a room with Alvin Lucier. It’s 1969 and we are on the campus of Brandeis University. Alvin is about to begin recording.
